Aims. Synthetica covers synthetic systems broadly — both synthetic biology and generative AI — on the premise that both fields are fundamentally about building rather than observing, and that researchers in each are increasingly borrowing the other's design language.

Scope. The journal covers:

• Synthetic biology: engineered genetic circuits, biofabrication, cell-free systems
• Metabolic engineering and biosynthetic pathway design
• Generative AI: image, text, audio, and video generation models
• Synthetic media, deepfakes, and digital content authenticity/provenance
• Design principles shared across biological and computational synthetic systems
• Safety, biosecurity, and dual-use considerations in synthetic biology
• AI safety, alignment, and governance for generative systems
• Ethical and societal implications of synthetic technologies

Article types. Original research, critical reviews, and safety/governance analysis papers.

Audience. Synthetic biologists, machine learning researchers, AI safety researchers, and bioethicists/technologists interested in dual-use and governance questions.
