About the Journal
Microbiome, published by Tomorrow's Research Publications (TRP), is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal covering the microbial communities that live in, on, and around every living system — from the human gut and skin to soil, oceans, plants, and built environments. We publish original research, methods papers, and critical reviews on how microbial ecosystems form, function, and interact with their hosts and environments.
Our goal is to give microbiome researchers — across medicine, ecology, agriculture, and environmental science — a single, well-run venue that doesn't force artificial boundaries between "human microbiome" and "environmental microbiome" research. In practice, the most interesting findings in this field increasingly come from work that crosses those lines, and we want the journal to reflect that.
Scope. We welcome submissions on (but not limited to):
- Human gut, oral, skin, and vaginal microbiome research
- Host-microbiome interactions and their role in disease and immunity
- Microbiome-based diagnostics and therapeutics (including fecal microbiota transplantation, probiotics, and postbiotics)
- Environmental and soil microbiomes
- Plant and agricultural microbiomes
- Marine and aquatic microbial ecology
- Microbiome bioinformatics, metagenomics, and computational methods
- The built environment and urban microbiomes
- Methodological and reproducibility challenges in microbiome research
Peer review. Every submission undergoes double-blind peer review by at least two reviewers with relevant subject expertise, coordinated through our editorial board. We target a first decision within of submission. Reviewers with a personal, financial, or institutional connection to a submitted manuscript are recused from the process.
Open access. All articles in Microbiome are published under a Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY 4.0) license, with no subscription or paywall for readers.
Publication ethics. Microbiome follows Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidelines on authorship, data integrity, plagiarism, and conflicts of interest. All submissions are screened for originality prior to peer review, and we maintain a clear process for handling misconduct allegations, including correction and retraction where necessary. Given how central raw sequencing data and metagenomic datasets are to this field, we also expect authors to deposit underlying data in a recognized public repository (e.g., NCBI SRA, ENA, MG-RAST) and cite the accession number in the manuscript.
Who we are. Microbiome is edited by a board of active researchers working across microbiology, bioinformatics, ecology, and clinical medicine. The journal is published by Tomorrow's Research Publications (TRP), an independent open-access publisher building rigorously reviewed journals in emerging and underserved research areas.
